Performing for the 7th time at the hr-Sendesaal, the Bridges Chamber Orchestra presents a new program that explores the themes of night and darkness in a rich variety of ways.
While Orpheus in Monteverdi's famous opera descends into the underworld in order to rescue his wife Euridice from the darkness, love is evoked in the song "Alf leila we leila" (1001 Nights), made world famous by the Egyptian singer Umm Kulthum: "In one long night of love, sweet as 1001 nights, lies the whole of life". Alongside these are other transcultural premieres featuring the themes of night and darkness by members of the Bridges Chamber Orchestra.
A special highlight is the debut of vocal soloist Rasha Rizk with the Bridges Chamber Orchestra: a celebrity throughout the Arabic-speaking world, she will bring the legendary singer Umm Kulthum's 1969 classic to life in Frankfurt.
The Bridges Chamber Orchestra will be conducted for the fourth time by Bar Avni, who will be making her debut at the hr-Sendesaal. Avni has been the principal conductor of the Bayer Philharmonic Orchestra Leverkusen since 2021, is a scholarship holder of the stARTacademy of Bayer Culture, and a prize winner and scholarship holder of the International Kurt Masur Institute 2021.
